an applicant tracking system
weekly startup spotlight: greenhouse 🌱
one of the first tasks i was ever given at my first internship was to set up an “ats” so we could make our first full-time hires.
i was in 10th grade and had no idea what an ats was. it stands for applicant tracking system, and is software that teams use to manage hiring processes, statuses, communication, and more. whenever you submit a job application on some external platform, it’s part of that company’s ats, where they will continue to track your status along some sort of recruiting pipeline.
we used greenhouse as our ats, which is a startup founded in 2012 that helps companies manage recruiting workflows. the different functions and features are extensive, from candidate sourcing through interviews to onboarding with structured hiring tools and analytics. you can customize pretty much everything, and they have a lot of tutorials/guides to help users get started.
i got used to the platform pretty quickly myself.
to date, over 11,000 companies use greenhouse for their ats purposes. in 2024, the company had 4,000 customers and was hitting $266 million in revenue.
questions i’d want to ask:
how do you measure outbound performance (opens, replies, conversions) by campaign and recruiter, and what benchmarks have you observed across customers?
how does greenhouse support segmentation and sequencing for personalized outreach at scale?
