a ābrickā - someone who has no desire to grow and is happy with where theyāre at. the true test of your dispositionās ābricknessā is college and the first few years post-grad.
itās easy to tell ourselves we always want to learn and grow, but once security and a fat paycheck leave you geeking over catered lunches, youāll see for yourself whether you make the extra effort to grow yourself.
iāll never be one to hate a brick. i donāt know anyoneās personal circumstances, because that security might be the very foundation they needed to build after generations of struggle. thatās freaking awesome.
but, i do think itās better for the world as a whole if we had fewer people dreaming of specific job titles, and more people dreaming of solving real problems in the world. even less philanthropic, more people are intrinsically driven by personal growth instead of idealizing the āiām thrilled to announce iāve accepted my offer at ____ā linkedin posts that plague every college studentās timeline.
a specific job at a specific company is too specific of a goal to ground your personal development to. it can be a stepping stone, but once settled onto that cushy stepping stone, many ambitious students stop moving entirely. they stop climbing and just become part of the pavement.

really cool take! iād like to imagine the opposite of some bricks to maybe be a sponge? someone willing to absorb more knowledge, perspectives, ideas etc. and be more āsquishy,ā generally flexible and willing to grow!
