do the mundane together
getting ready and all 💅
my 3 best friends and i were invited to a friend’s birthday party, and we all decided to get ready together, because why not? it was an excuse to hang out a little longer before i leave to start my internship in sf next week.
doing the seemingly mundane together is what keeps friendships alive. they thrive in high school and college because every daily moment is automatically shared, but that rhythm falls off dramatically once distance steps in.
the little things, like getting ready together, running errands, picking up your siblings, and getting work done together on a call, are what a continuation of that shared life is like. it requires an active effort when distance doesn’t make hanging out the convenient choice, but i can attribute the strength of my closest relationships to annual sleepovers, craft nights, and huddling together in a mirror with each of our lip liners held to our lips.
we were all wearing each other’s dresses, cardigans, jewelry, and makeup. we had to individually wear them home as well, so surely, we’ll come up with another “mundane” reason to see each other again in the next few days and exchange items once more.
doing the mundane is actually very exciting when it’s together.
