i love the grocery store 🛒
kids have candy stores. i have the grocery store. it’s especially detrimental to my wallet when i’m on an empty stomach.
i’m going to be in nyc for the next two weeks and there’s no shot i’m eating out every day so my first stop was the grocery store. i genuinely get so much joy from exploring local grocery stores — ingles while i was in asheville, trader joe’s (the loml) kind of everywhere in america, seiyu in japan, and so many little markets in between.
it’s the easiest way to experience local culture, from sampling local snacks to discovering commonalities in different shopping carts.
also, hello? why was i so late to realize cooking is incredibly cheap and easy lol. i got a week’s worth of lunches for $20 and it only takes 10 mins for me to chef it up every afternoon. fortunately, i’m a meal repeater, so this works out well for me.
i grew up joining my parents on their costco runs and absolutely milking all of the samples, often returning to the same stations with a sheepish “this one’s for my sister..”
grocery stores have always been a lovely time for me to escape reality and play life simulator.
