intuition wins more decisions than logic does. we just dress it up in logic afterwards. this isn’t a bad thing. i believe intuition is critical to cultivate, and it’s an even greater comparative advantage when young.

people with good intuition often rely on years of experience within a field. they’ve recognized patterns and can predict early signs of customer behaviour, project decisions, medical diagnoses, colour composition, and a lot more.

there’s a foundational layer to intuition, and professional experience is just one way to build it. at its core, intuition is pattern recognition so fast it feels like instinct, but it’s built, not born. put yourself in situations where you’re forced to make connections and mentally formulate patterns.

it’s why people who are good at math have good intuition. you must recognize problem structures immediately. chess players fall into this bucket for similar reasons.

investors must also have good intuition, and this tends to be achieved through 1) experience, obviously, and 2) putting in countless reps of discernment. it’s helpful for people in vc to place mental bets on different individuals and test assumptions. it may seem callous, but that’s how you intentionally develop the skill of discernment, which is a vital signal for intuition.

i’m not telling you to start day trading and call it an intuition-building exercise. it’s a lot simpler than that: solve problems under time pressure, watch experts and try to predict their next move, or make small daily predictions and check your accuracy.

exercise your intuition muscle — it’s a pretty powerful trait that enables communication charged with conviction. :)
