onto today’s topic: one of society’s biggest challenges 😵
finding empathy.
i blame desensitization. our society doesn't bat an eye at the countless stories of hate crimes or war on the news and i often hear, “why don’t they just…” but, this just isn’t accessible for millions of people. 🌎️
people can’t just flee their home country like they’re walking to the grocery store. people can’t just hide away their identities for the sake of mitigating the possibility of experiencing discrimination. and people certainly can’t just obtain a life of privilege with a flip of a switch.
the things people go through all around the world are real, not just made-up stories you read in a book. i understand that looking at the news and constantly staying informed about the world is pretty depressing because there’s so much wrong with it. but, i’m not saying to parse through every article or stay glued to the updates, i’m saying to truly understand the gravity of the information you receive.
lives aren’t just statistics. #️⃣ they’re people with stories, with families and with dreams just like you and i. there’s much more to people than headlines in the news or malicious rumours spread around about someone.
instead of defaulting to judgment or passiveness, show compassion and have heart.
it’s powerful. 🫂
