the romanticizing comes first
stop deferring joy ⭐️
first, you romanticize the mundane.
only then will you believe your life is worth romanticizing.
sometimes i have to check myself when i realize i’m getting the order mixed up. people defer joy. once i have a nicer apartment .. a passport with more stamps .. an aesthetic closet .. then maybe i’ll feel it? that day keeps moving though, because there’s always more.
i don’t have to wait until my lifestyle fits into this decorated frame i’ve envisioned to live with a little more romance right now. i romanticize my hardly-decorated apartment, the same dinner i eat every single evening, the “jewelry tray” on my nightstand that is actually a plate from my kitchen, and the views from an incredible hike while running on not enough sleep.
the romanticizing begins before it’s picture perfect. it’s how you enjoy the present while leaving room for the future’s ambition.
instead of waiting for a better, more ideal, more perfect life, it’s important to also see the life right now as progress. just as much as the finish line when you achieve your goals, the progress deserves romance, affection, and gratitude. a marathon where your friends cheered you on with signs along the way, with perfect weather, weaving in between little towns deserves its own sweetness, too.
there’s sweetness worth romanticizing everywhere.
