overthinking turned inaction đ§
weâre more scared of hypotheticals than we think. weâre so scared of âwhat-ifsâ that it paralyzes us into never doing anything.
we also often unknowingly believe that this âdeliberationâ process, or rather repackaged overthinking, is actually productive.
deliberation and talking in circles is useless without trying something out and truly exposing an outcome. you learn more from execution, not overintellectualization.
just do things.
we avoid responsibility by hiding in abstractions. sartreâs notion of âbad faithâ is especially relevant. we trick ourselves into believing our inaction is thoughtful reflection, when in reality itâs avoidance. to exist authentically is to act and to commit even under uncertainty.
build-measure-learn cycles show that only through real-world testing do we uncover truth. overthinking before acting is like trying to predict the weather without ever stepping outside.
you donât get anything done by thinking and talking about it. you get it done by doing it. donât let your need to plan and reach 100% certainty turn the dial to 0. at the end of the day, some outcome, regardless of negative or positive, is a greater opportunity for learning than no outcome at all.
doing is the only thinking that compounds.
